The Creature in Between is a collaborative project conceived by the Appreciation Society. It is proposed as as an experimental multimedia framework to explore through artistic practice what it is to be a person in the living world we share with other creatures. Through the project artists, hackers, potters, writers and musicians will come together to collaborate in creative processes, finding novel ways of translating their perceptions across cultures, generations, languages and species. The intention is that the project will move across continents, transferring knowledge from one location to another. As the project advances, it will collect from each location sounds, images, shapes and words emerging from these translations: slowly but steadily building a sound archive, an image bank, a glossary of neologisms, and a collection of innovative musical instruments which will in the future come together to form an "orchestra".

The first chapter of the project began in October 2016 in Santa Victoria Este II, Salta, Argentina, in collaboration with Centro Cultural Tewok, a centre for the conservation and sharing of Wichí cultural knowledge. The participants for the intensive "colaboratorio" in Santa Victoria Este II were: Claudia Fontes, Elba Bairon, Guadalupe Miles, Mateo Carabajal and myself alongside members of the community in Santa Victoria Este II. The collaboratory explorations were launched through a series of workshops in ceramics, photography, sound recording, hacking & making electronic musical instruments, and stop-frame animation.

With thanks to support of my participation in the project from the Arts Council England / British Council Artists International Development Fund, British Council Argentina and Ministerio de Cultura y Turismo de Salta, and the Appreciation Society..
