Joga, Isso! (2010)

Joga, Isso! is a documentary sound composition, capturing the training sessions of amateur football club Grupo Desportivo de Parada, in the regional football leagues of rural Portugal.

The composition was produced from a series of dual-stereo sound recordings, focused on the spatial choreographies of training drills and exercises at the team’s ground, Campo da Nossa Senhora de Fátima. Beyond the themes of space and movement, the piece forms an intimate portrait of this club as a social as well as a sporting unit, embodying a unique set of identities, reflection and product of the geographies of the rural village of Parada de Ester.

The piece was originally produced as a stereo sketch towards a four-channel sound work, G. D. Parada, which was exhibited at Serralves Museum (Porto) as part of Documenta-Se! (2010), and later as an audiovisual work at Glass Tank Gallery (Oxford Brookes University) as part of Get Some Chalk on Your Boots (2018).

The project was produced through two artist residencies (2008/ 2009) hosted by Binaural/Nodar, a rural based media arts organisation based in the region of Viseu Dão Lafões.
