This is Highfield Road is an online archive of sound recordings documenting the Coventry City F.C’s final season at their Highfield Road stadium in 2005. Captured in vivid binaural sound for listening on headphones, the 141 sound recordings transport us to the heart of Highfield Road’s West Terrace. The archive offers a tool for the playful exploration of the language of football crowd sound, reflecting broadly on the connections between sound, place and identity.

Originally developed as a research project in 2005 with the support of Arts Council England and PVA Medialab, This is Highfield Road has been redeveloped as a public-facing online project as part of Get Some Chalk on Your Boots!: The Sounding Cultures of Football curated by Paul Whitty and hosted by Sonic Arts Research Unit (SARU) at Oxford Brookes University.
